Exclusive Southern Tanzania Safari – Accommodation

Beho Beho Lodge

Privacy and exclusivity - Beho Beho was the first camp to be sited in The Selous, not on the banks, or the flood plains of the mighty Rufiji River, but in the cooler highlands so as to enjoy the 'cooling breezes' from which its name derives. Always designated as a 'private luxury camp' it has fiercely protected its individuality and privileged location as one of the most 'magical' safari places it is possible to visit in Africa.

Beho Beho has created the true 'essence' of a safari refuge, for safari travellers who have 'been there and done that' throughout the big game countries of Africa now there is a camp that takes the 'best' of each safari and combines it into one remarkable experience. A luxurious base camp from which to explore on foot, by boat or by open safari cruiser the splendours of one of the largest game preserves in the world.

Beho Beho's experienced guides will plan your safari programme, whether you need time to relax and be pampered or want a wildlife viewing game drive before breakfast in the bush. From sunrise to sunset, from early morning tea to sundowner a Beho Beho safari is planned to your requirements.

Beho Beho's stone built and palm thatched cottages are not just for sleeping, these spacious 'suites', which open up reveal unrivalled vistas of the Africa bush, are designed as private 'homes' with individuality and flair. The open sided lounges and dining areas together with the cocktail bar and 'billiards room' provide a sophisticated setting for post safari relaxation and the swimming pool and deck an ideal place to cool off.

Lukula Selous Luxury Camp

Lukula Selous is a unique place that offers what it did to Frederick Selous during his lifetime: adventure and fantastic wildlife. It provides one of those rare opportunities to commune and still touch the raw beating heart of Africa in private, while only leaving our shadows on the soil and footprints in the sand to be rapidly lost amongst the tracks of the wildlife surrounding us.

The Selous Game Reserve encompasses 55,000 square kilometers of wilderness, it is one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries anywhere. The Selous is world renowned for its wild character and large populations of elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, crocodile and African wild dog. Within this special place, deep in its southern reaches and far from anyone else, you find Lukula Selous.

Lukula Selous is a private photographic sanctuary of over 300,000 acres where only one group of guests is permitted into the entire area at any given time. The group may be an individual, a couple, a family or a private group of friends or colleagues, up to a maximum of eight people, with no age limits.

Privacy and complete freedom capture the spirit of Lukula Selous. Select, small groups and individuals have the opportunity to explore this wilderness in complete privacy and with complete freedom under expert guidance only. The minimum stay is four nights.

Lukula Selous boasts a diverse habitat ranging from open flood plains interspersed with dense riparian forests that border the Lukula, Luwegu and Chi rivers, to open savanna, which recedes to forested, rolling hills and steep ridges of exposed rock. A landscape seldom visited and unchanged by man, rich with wildlife and spectacular in nature.

Guests are true guests in an authentic luxury tented camp with great style. The camp has only 4 spacious sleeping tents set along the riverbank. Each authentic and stylish tent possesses beautifully worked pieces of campaign furniture made from re-cycled hardwoods, brass, copper and weathered canvas, enhanced by carpets, cushions and colours brought inland from Zanzibar and afar. En suite facilities feature large open-air bathrooms with bucket showers, flush toilets, washbasins and vanity stands. Hot water is available upon request 24 hours a day. Each sleeping tent has large comfortable beds, luxurious linen, full-length mirrors and standing fans.

A spacious and comfortably appointed dining tent provides an intimate and extremely beautiful area in which to relax and dine at a finely crafted mahogany table, under magnificent candelabra. The 'diwan' area stretches out onto the veranda and is a haven to quietly read a favorite book, listen to the many sounds of river life or reflect upon the day's adventures. A small campfire set out under the stars provides a perfect compliment to dinner and to the evening's gatherings.

All meals are expertly prepared using wholesome, natural and local ingredients. Bread and cakes are freshly baked in the camp's 'dutch' oven daily. Special meals and dietary restrictions can be accommodated upon request.

Jongomero Luxury Camp

Superbly isolated right in the heart of the Ruaha National Park lies Jongomero Luxury Camp on the banks of a seasonal sand river which bears the same name. Blending in beautifully with its surroundings the camp is tucked away among some shady riverine vegetation not far from permanent water therefore attracting a large amount of animals into the camp area. Being the only camp situated in this area of the park ensures unmatched privacy and a true wilderness experience.

Accommodation at Jongomero comprises eight large and well-appointed tented suites, all built on raised wooden platforms and under enormous thatched roofs that also encompass a spacious private veranda. All tents are spread out, situated on the edge of the sand river which is often used by a multitude of different animals to make their way to the river system for water.

The dining and living areas are both original and very comfortable offering a great vantage to take in the sights and sounds of the African bush that surrounds the camp, as does the natural "hippo friendly" swimming pool for those hot days. Elephants are daily and nightly visitors to the camp, vast herds of buffalo come within close proximity to the camp itself.
